Lavender is such a wonderful herb, it is not only beautiful but also gives off the most intoxicating scent. I love the earthy delicious smell! The Lavender bouquets are by far my favorite part of this gorgeous wedding photographed by Beautiful Day photography. The color palate is so soothing and the setting just gorgeous. The wedding between Tyson and Shannon took place at Ojai Valley Inn and Spa in Ojai, California. The couple has known each other since they were 13 years old and started dating in their senior year of high school. The wedding was planned by Ryan Larson from Savior Flair Weddings. The couples program cover was designed by Andrea Burrell and created with the love letters the couple had written to each other the past 12 years together. Since Tyson and Shannon went to High School together, they enlisted their principle to marry them. The beautiful florals were designed by Laura Bachman of Hoot and Heart who drew from the scenery at Ojai Valley Inn and Spa where lavendar grows wild as well as succulents.

My Halloween Costume Make-up….thanks to the Fabulous Tara Dowburd-Luftman
October 20, 2009 at 4:22 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentSO I won’t give it away JUST yet what I am going to be…all I can say is that it involved a pre-make-up trial that scared my neighbors and made me look like a Dead French Mime:) My great friend, Tara, Goddess and Owner of Make-up Therapy did a great job of not only making me look terrifyingly hot, but also taking photos. We decided to take photos as the make-up continued to build for her blog. She should put on her website “Not only does she do Beauty, but she does UGLY as well”
…Check it out! I am sure Tara will do a better job explaining the make-up steps on her blog….the hard part is having to do it on my OWN for Halloween!
Ps Tara, If I’M going to be on here with no make up, so are you!:) Love you!

QUITE POSSIBLY The WORST photo EVER taken of me…Thanks Danielle!

The FABULOUS Jay Nash and the Low Stars headlining at The Troubador
October 20, 2009 at 3:58 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
Jay Nash is not only a great friend of mine that I have known for a decade since my days at Syracuse University, but he also is a former Groom of mine and I have had the pleasure of shooting his sister-in-law’s wedding and countless concerts of his as well. He is truly one of those people that was just BORN to be a musician. He thinks, eats, drinks… DRINKS:), and BREATHES music. You can tell the passion by just listening to him and OF COURSE the talent:) He has inspired me during times that I doubted my existence as a starving artist in Los Angeles in my early days, living poor off the floor of my apartment, because I couldn’t afford a bed and saving and rewashing my plastic silverware from Wendy’s, because I couldn’t afford REAL cutlery..and made me realize WHY I was doing what I was doing out here. Because I LOVE it and I am passionate about it. He deserves to be famous and living large and I know he will get there soon. Until then, I will keep supporting and shooting and I HAD to celebrate his first time of Headlining at the Troubador!…GO JAY! You SO still owe me two guitar lessons by the way:) Please check his music out if you get a chance at www.jaynash.com. You WON’T be sorry.

Paul Kim…American Idol Finalist
October 20, 2009 at 3:47 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
One of my best friends, Tasha Mobley, helped style this shoot. Her husband, Amilcar…better known as “Pro” owns and operates Create Management Firm and reps both Paul Kim and John Ho; two up-and-coming, talented artists. Over the weekend we had a great day of shooting in Downtown LA; starting at a rad loft and ending at the Disney Concert Hall. Some of the shots were so rad I just HAD to blog a sneak peek of this shoot. The group shot is SO CSI Miami:) To check out more photos from this shoot, just click on this link. And definitely check these guys out on Myspace. They rock!

Jhordice and Mauricio…or Jhordicio’s wedding at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels in Downtown LA
October 17, 2009 at 9:38 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentSO I HAD to share a TON of images from Jhordice and Mauricio’s wedding, because there were so many amazing details that helped make the day extra special. Of course most of this is due to the FABULOUS Laurie Davies with 5 Star Weddings and Events. I know that every time I shoot one of her weddings that we will be submitting it to a magazine…I swear! Jhordice looked SO beautiful and her bridesmaids dresses were very elegant and made the event feel like the Oscars. Their ceremony was at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels in Downtown LA. It is such a modern (only 6 years old), yet magnificent building. It is known for its unique architecture, which is what I believe drew them to this church (Mauricio is an Architect)…but also to our second shooting location, the unusual Disney Concert Hall designed by Frank Gehry. I mean, check out the amazing colors! Laurie, of course, transformed the Sheraton Universal into the set of “Dancing with the Stars” with performance after performance during dinner of real professional ballroom dancers…which not only WOWed ME, but the guests, band members, kitchen staff…I mean EVERYONE stopped what they were doing to check out the dancers. The cool thing about it was watching the guests break it down on the dancefloor after the performances…They were SO inspired to try to flip around and dance like the professionals. SO funny! Other cute details were the Chocolate/Caramel Favors, the chocolate fountain in addition to the funky cake…and MY personal favorite which I plan to steal one day at my own wedding…The Newlywed Game, where Jhordice and Mauricio has to sit back to back and try to answer questions about each other…It was TOO funny!

Rachel and Charles’s wedding at the Busch Residence in “the Bu”
October 14, 2009 at 7:00 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentSo I just had to do a small sneak peek of this gorgeous wedding…Rachel was a referral from my great friend (and former bride) Nish Fuchs and I had SUCH a blast being a part of Rachel and Charles’s wedding. I feel like one of the family. I mean you could not pick a better, more inspiring location to shoot at then her Dad’s amazing Architectural masterpiece of a home in Malibu. Her dad Douglas Busch, happens to be a famous Photographer/Architect/artist..so NO pressure AT ALL:) What kept the party going was the amazing live band led by none other than Chris Pierce himself…I am a HUGE fan and have photographed him numerous times over the years at charity concerts. I HAD to stay and party a bit after working, because the music and company was so great. I also had a mini Beautiful Day family reunion with Allison and Mitch Burmeister whom I used to work with…SUCH a great evening! Rachel, you looked so HOT!

CHECK out the BLOG LOVE about Alissa and Rich’s wedding on MyWedding.com!!
October 1, 2009 at 8:36 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentAlissa and Rich’s Rustic Elegant Affair in Los Olivos, CA
Posted by Gretchen of mywedding.com August 28, 2009
I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love this weeks featured wedding! Alissa and Rich’s wedding was so creative and heartfelt. The details – from Alissa’s petticoat to the beautiful place cards and everything in between were bursting with color and style.
Laura Grier of Beautiful Day Photography did an amazing job capturing this day. The emotion is jumping right off the photos and into you heart! All of this eye candy is accompanied by sweeter sentiments written by the couple themselves.
Enjoy!
How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story:
We are both performers and that led to our initial meeting. Rich and I met May 6, 2000 after Rich performed in a mutual friend’s recital at NYU. I walked up to him in Washington Square Park and started blathering on about how he was such a talented musician. We walked together from Washington Square Park to Union Square Park, where I lived at the time, exchanged numbers and the rest, as they say, was history! It was only fitting that Rich proposed at the exact spot in Washington Square Park where I had first approached him. This time, I said little more than “YES!!” and started crying!
What was the theme | design inspiration for your wedding?
My location and my relationship with my fiancé were definitely pieces of inspiration for my wedding. I knew I wanted rustic elegance with classic movie star fashion.
Tell us about the attire for both bride, groom and the bridal party:
Rich fell in love with a dark navy suit from Armani. He paired this with dark brown shoes from Banana Republic, shirt and tie from Theory. His groomsmen wore dark navy suits of their choosing paired with pale pink ties.
My bridesmaids were in what I like to call “lipstick colors,” magenta’s, berries and blush. My sister (and maid of honor) wore a deep eggplant dress. The dresses were by Jim Hjelm and purchased at the amazing Renee Strauss, for the bride here in Los Angeles!
My dress story – On a whim, I walked into Selia Yang’s storefront on East 9th St. in NYC and walked out with a sample, a very simple white A-line dress with absolutely no frills. I flew back to L.A. with the mission to make this my dream wedding dress. Luckily, I didn’t have to look very far. I am blessed to have two miraculously talented designers living within feet of my front door, Clay Sadler, a recent graduate of FIDM, and Susan Joy Brownstein, a graphic designer & jewelry designer. With a little sweat and a lot of love, we created my vintage-inspired headpiece, intricate bustle, and multi-colored petticoats which matched each of my bridesmaid’s dresses. We paired my ethereal shrug with a handcrafted velvet flower accented with Clay’s grandmother’s antique brooch. In addition we used vintage beads and fabric to craft a bouquet fastener that coordinated perfectly with my overall look. Once it all came together, I felt as though I was an old time film star come to life.
Favorite design element of your big day:
When it came to all the little paper details, I looked, once again, to Susan Joy Brownstein. She runs her own graphic design company and paper company, kraftandkind.com and susanjoydesigns.com and is a pro at capturing a person’s style in her designs. She created the ceremony programs, all signage, and CD favors which utilized our fantastic engagement shoot pix which were featured on Rocknrollbride’s blog this past May.
As far as music went I knew that we wanted a DJ. And as luck would have it, one of my best friends is a well known event MC here in Los Angeles., Rory Pollinger (rorypollinger.com). As his gift to me, he MC’d our wedding and provided us with a very talented DJ as well. Everything was so seamless and done with such love. I could not have asked for more from him.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding?
Trying to make sure everyone got up the winding mountain road in one piece! Thankfully, we hired a shuttle service for our guests.
What advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?
Start soon! Know that there will be disagreements going in and be prepared to compromise! Make sure you take mental pictures throughout the day so you can remember each special moment.
Any specific reasons behind certain choices you made for your wedding? Maybe flowers that were your mom’s favorite, or your first dance song was the first song you ever heard together…that kind of thing?
I am Jewish and my husband is Christian. So we used elements from both faiths during our ceremony. My sister, Rachel Dean (www.racheldeanart.com) is a fabulous fine artist and handmade our ketubah (Jewish wedding contract). She totally captured my exact taste and it was so special when everyone signed it together.
I had my cousin sing a very special song as my mom, dad and sister walked me down the aisle. And yes, my whole family walked me down. I figured it was only fair that they all got me to this point, so symbolically ushering me to Rich made sense to me. As for the song, it was “Near You Always” by Jewel.
Our first song was actually a song we heard on the radio one day, and by the time it was over, we both looked at each other and said “that’s our song.” It was “Then” by Brad Paisley. As it was a country song, we took country dance lessons with Trish Connery here in L.A. She choreographed a beautiful dance that we were happy to perform. And speaking of performances, one element that remained a surprise to everyone was our surprise performance of “Saw her Standing There” by the Beatles. We thought the lyrics were pretty accurate to when we met and everyone was very surprised by us breaking out into song when we were introduced into the reception. That was probably my favorite moment!
Tell me something about your photographer that you absolutely loved:
After an extensive search for a photographer, we found Laura Greer at Beautiful Day Photography. We fell in love with her laid back photo-journalistic style and her infectious positive energy. Through Laura, we actually ended up finding our wedding location, The Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse in Los Olivos, California, based on the photos from one of the gorgeous weddings she shot there. As you will see in the attached photos, we accomplished our vision of a “vintage rustic chic” themed wedding. Being the daughter of a NY event planner, Daveen Dean of Glittering Moments, really came in handy when choosing my vendors. Laura’s energy is amazing and she is totally stealthy. I had no idea she was even there, yet she made her presence known at the important moments. I am in love with every single shot, to the point that I have no idea how I will ever choose pix for our album!
